Top Five Favourite Actors

Image
Having watched many films and TV shows, I do sometimes stop and think of the actors who gave us amazing performances throughout their careers. Here are my top five favourite actors of all time. 5. Adam Driver Despite the criticisms Disney faced with how they handled the new Star Wars trilogy, you can't deny the performances in the film. Adam Driver really stood out for me throughout the three films. His performance as Kylo Ren is both raw and intimidating with some great emotional range. He was enjoyable in the film BlackkKlansman where he plays an FBI agent helping to expose the KKK in America. He then elevates his range in the fantastic Marriage Story where he plays a father going through divorce. Unfortunately his performance wasn't quite enough to get him the Oscar, but his acting holds up really well and allows the audience to resonate with the character on a very strong and emotional level. https://youtu.be/XDXzq2rydso 4. Social and Political Agendas - do they belong?

When it comes to any modern film or TV show, there seems to be a strong emphasis on diversity for the characters featured. Sometimes this is good other times it's bad. On one hand, it's good for representation, whether it's a female lead, ethnic minority or any other form of diversity. However, depending how it effects the story, this can cause a lot of friction. I first became aware of this trend whilst watching The Force Awakens and I had no issue with the fact that the main character was a woman, it was more to do with how her character was handled throughout the trilogy. Then more and more films were being released and it felt as though female leads in particular were on the rise, whether that was in films or TV shows and I started to wonder, "why are studios pushing for this so heavily?". I embraced the idea of female characters taking the lead, no longer are they damsels in distress, they can kick ass and hold a film themselves if the script will...

Concerning Reboots

Image
Now more than ever, it seems we are living in the age of reboots. All classic films and series from the 80s and 90s are now starting to come back in to modern pop culture through movie and TV reboots. In the last 10 years, we've experienced an influx of reboots from Transformers, TMNT, Power Rangers and Mortal Kombat to name a few and each film is faced with its own series of problems. So what is it about reboots that seems to divide movie goers with some films but brings other audiences together? The first issue is audience expectation. Films that are made now are very different to how they were originally made. One example would be the need to cover concepts and notions with such depth and clarity. A majority of fans appear to want more of an in-depth backstory to provide more substance to the plot or character in question. However, in some instances, there is the risk of going too overboard and causing confusion with characters, storyline or continuity...or it simply...

Solo: A Star Wars Story - what went wrong

Image
Since Disney first purchased the rights to Lucasarts all the way back in 2012, it wasn't long before we got our first Star Wars film with 2015's The Force Awakens. For every year until 2019, we were getting a new Star Wars film. In 2016 we got the first spin-off film, Rogue One, 2017 gave us the controversial Last Jedi and 2018, we had the second spin-off, Solo. Disney decided it was time to explore the backstory of one of the galaxy's most beloved characters. There was speculation from the beginning as to why this film was even being made, as fans already knew enough about Star Wars' greatest scoundrel and with such a charismatic performance from Harrison Ford in the original films, it's difficult to imagine anybody else playing that role. The pressure fell on Alden Ehrenreich to bring Solo to life with his interpretation. Unfortunately it seems the project was destined to fail. It came just months after The Last Jedi and there were problems on set whil...
